The government of Alberta province offers Assured Income for Severely Handicapped (AISH) benefits to eligible Albertans struggling with permanent medical conditions. Under the AISH program, people who can’t earn enough due to medical conditions can receive a living allowance, health benefits, personal benefits, and many others through AISH benefits.

Why should you sign up for direct deposit?
The government of Albertans processes the AISH payments with direct deposit and physical checks, currently, the government is urging the Albertans to sign up for the Direct deposit to continue receiving their AISH payments.
The reason for the government urging the residents to sign for the direct deposit is due to the Canada Post strike, which makes it difficult for the authority to send the payment through mail checks. Hence, the government is advising people to plan ahead and sign up for the direct deposit payment method to continue receiving their AISH payments.
The direct deposit has its advantage as you will receive the payment directly in your bank account on the payment date only. The AISH recipients should opt for Direct deposit by calling the Alberta Supports Contact Centre (1 855 297 4833) or AISH or Income support Staff (1 877 644 9992).
People who can’t speak or hear can text toll-free no. 1 800 232 7215 or for people living in Edmonton at 780 427 9999.

AISH Benefit Payout in 2025
The Albertan government has not announced any official increase in the AISH payments, however, based on the 2025 indexation rates the recipients can expect a 2% raise in their AISH payments.
The 2% indexation rate is aligned with the consumer price index, so the Albertans can expect the rise. So, if the payment increases, the AISh recipients who currently receive a $1863 living allowance payment under the AISH can expect a rise of $35 to $40 in their 2025 payments.
The final announcement on the AISH payouts, which will include living allowance, child benefit, modified living allowance, and others can happen soon.
The AISH benefit payment for January 2025 will be processed on 20 December 2024, so AISH recipients should immediately sign up for Direct deposit to receive their payment timely.
Thanks for the update 🤗
