The Indian Premier League (IPL) is a franchise Twenty20 cricket league held on an annual basis in India, organized by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The opening match of the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will be played on March 21, 2025.
The final is expected to take place on May 25 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. While the official fixtures are yet to be announced, it is anticipated that the BCCI will unveil the complete IPL 2025 schedule in upcoming weeks and before the commencement of the Champions Trophy.
IPL Schedule 2025
The 2025 Indian Premier League will be the 18th edition. This tournament will feature ten teams that will compete in 74 matches. The tournament will start from 21 March and will come to an end on 25 May 2025. Kolkata is going to host the opening ceremony and the final of IPL at the Eden Gardens as the defending champions.
The full schedule of IPL 2025 was set to come out in the last week, however, the decision to announce the schedule has been delayed and now it is expected that the IPL governing body will announce the full schedule of IPL 2025 in the next week. IPL 2025 Venue
The opening match of IPL 2025 is going to be played between the defending champions and hosts, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and TBA at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata. The Qualifier 2 and the final are also scheduled for Eden Gardens as they are the base of the defending champions.
Whereas it is expected that Hyderabad will host the Qualifier 1 and Eliminator matches of IPL this season as they ended up as runner-up in previous season.

What will be the format of IPL 2025?
The IPL 2025 is going to follow the same format of the previous IPL editions. The tournament will be played with a total of 10 teams. These teams will be divided into two groups of five.
In the group stage, every team needs to play 14 matches and face the other four teams of their group two times each (one home and one away game), four teams in the other group once, as well as the remaining team two times.
Every team who will win a match will be awarded 2 points whereas the losing team will not receive any points. It is important to know that in case of a draw or no result, both teams will be awarded only one point.
After the group stage, the four-matches playoffs stage will start. Following is the list of four matches that will be played in the playoffs stage:
- Qualifier 1: will be played between the teams who will be ranked first and second in the group stage.
- Eliminator: will be played between the teams who will be ranked third and fourth in the group stage.
- Qualifier 2: will be played between the loser of Qualifier 1 and the winner of the Eliminator in May 2025.
- Final: will be played between the winners of Qualifiers 1 and 2 on May 25, 2025.

This year’s tournament will be the first IPL edition that is going to be broadcast after the completion of the merger between Viacom18 and Star India, forming Jio Star. It is because Star India’s Star Sports and Viacom18’s JioCinema had obtained the satellite and digital broadcasting rights for 2023– 2027 IPL season respectively.
